Letter to our Community
Dear Community,
We are members of the "Teens Going Green" initiative at Buckman Road. The "Teens Going Green" initiative is a program that the Y2 group (6th grade-12th grade) started in November 2010. We started the program to get our community to recycle. Our initiative also teaches the community about recycling. Our message is that recycling is a good thing to do.
It is important to recycle because it helps our community and the world. Mother nature is very upset with how people treat her. Recycling is something everyone can do to make her smile. It is also important to recycle because not only does it keep our community clean by reducing landfills, but it can help to create more jobs. No one wants to live in a messy dump, so we, the Teens Going Green, stepped up and took charge.
We have had much success with our initiative thus far. Some of our accomplishments include winning a $500 grant for our hard work, getting our community to recycle more, starting a blog site and helping other CPDC sites start their own recycling initiative. Being a part of this community project has helped us become better people. We realize the importance of recycling and taking better care of our community. We hope that you will continue to support our initiative by using your new blue bins to recycle.
Sincerely,
Teens Going Green

My Goodness Do We Ever Get A Break!!!!!!
Did you ever have SO many challenges? Well this is the place you will.At the community center I don't think we get a break at all.Every single day we lug a big bag of recyclables from our building down to the community center.I call that a challenge.Every month we have a very big challenge of who would have the most recyclables. But at the end, Inoticed lots of challenges helps you in life!
Successful, Recycled Clothing Sale
Working together with my teammates to complete our clothing sale was a big accomplishment. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how many people came in and actually bought something from the sale . I thought the clothing sale was a good idea but I thought nobody was going to come.
I am surprised on how much our sale was a success!
Don't You Love Teamwork? I Do!!!!
Hey I am going to talk about teamwork! Teamwork is like when u are helpful to your friends. Sometimes if we help each other carry the recycled cans, we get rewards. The best part is when we get to work together to get things done. When we bring in recyclables we always have each other. I don't think we ever had one person rinse their bottles by themselves and that's the point of teamwork. You're never alone I promise!!!
Going Green With Clothes, Another Way to Recycle
Residents and other doners donated clothing to the Gateway Center in order to raise funds for youth programming. This was a way of reusing peoples clothes.
The items donated were purses, shoes, shirts and pants. With the pieces donated, customers were able to purchase a complete wardrobe for under $5!
The sale was a success and we accomplished two goals, raising funds for a good cause and re-using instead of throwing away.

Make it Useful
Ever heard the term, "One person's trash is another person's treasure"? Well, below are ideas on different recycle materials that you, yes YOU can turn into a usable treasure.
The teens of Buckman Rd. Community decided to stop and admire the TRASHure they had and turn it into a usable object or simply, a piece of art by using inxepensive materials such as, glue, glitter, tape, paint and of course, an item that can be recycled!
Here, a Pepsi can was cut in half, and used to create a piece of art, a desk-size flower pot!
Be sure to use caution when making crafts out of cans and glass, if assistance is needed, ask an adult.
Be sure to use gloves when working with marterials that could carry germs, or have sharp edges.
